What do a medical editor, a vet and a chocolatier have in common? The answer: they are all scientists and have fascinating and varied careers that they shared with us as part of the Inspire me: Science event on 31 January 2012.
We were delighted to welcome the following guest speakers, each with a different experience of studying science and the varied career paths that can follow:
- Dr Kamran Abbasi (parent) – a doctor, medical editor, and a cricket writer. He is currently the editor of the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine.
- Nicky Holdstock (parent) – a senior clinical lecturer in veterinary science at the University of Cambridge, who specialises in anything from race horses to rhinos.
- Miss Bethany Hughes (Old Persean) – read Biochemistry at the University of St Andrews and became a research assistant, before changing career paths to become an executive pastry chef and chocolatier.
