The snooker world championships continues at the Crucible this week with the likes of Ronnie O'Sullivan and Neil Robertson beginning their campaigns to take the title back from reigning champion Stuart Bingham, who unfortunately failed to proceed on Friday after a tense 10-9 loss to Ali Carter. However, the snooker world is still recovering from the announcement that the legendary player, Steve Davis, is retiring from the sport after this tournament.
The Great British Ice Hockey team play against Lithuania today (Wednesday) in a continuation of their world championship campaign. A win would keep the team unbeaten so far in this tournament after the 4-1 win against Croatia on the opening day and the later win over Estonia in a more tense game which ended 4-3. The commentator Seth Bennett says that "there will be areas of concern for head coach Pete Russell" after the match with Estonia which the team will need to eliminate if they want to maintain their success throughout the rest of the tournament. Following today's game, on Saturday they pick up their tournament once again when they face the Ukraine, the favourites to win the tournament.
With less than a month to go before the end of the football season, the title race is becoming more and more exciting, with the impossible dream becoming ever more real for Leicester city - can Tottenham claw their way to the top before the end of the season? Both teams play this week with Leicester facing mid-table Swansea on Sunday and Tottenham once again playing in the Monday night fixture, this week against West Bromwich Albion. After Aston Villa's relegation last weekend, the fight to avoid the drop is also mounting. Newcastle face Liverpool away at Anfield whilst Sunderland have a home tie against Arsenal before facing Stoke away a week later. Norwich have no game this week but will be getting ready to also face Arsenal, however a week later and this time at the Emirates.
For those members of the Amber Army, Cambridge United play this Saturday away to Notts County in a bid to overcome the five point deficit they have to the last play off position, currently held by AFC Wimbledon. However, with or without promotion, Cambridge United have definitely improved this season compared to last, and will remain in League Two for another year given they are currently 12th in the table (out of 24 teams).
The annual London Marathon takes place this Sunday with runners of all ages and abilities taking part. The first race was held in 1981 and has been run every year between now and then. This year, a particular milestone will be reached during the race, with one runner crossing the line to become the millionth person to cross the finish line at The Mall in this world famous race. All three races take place once again; Men's, Women's and Disabled, with both the general public and professional athletes taking part.
