If you're fascinated by politics or diplomacy, our Model UN (MUN) is your chance to find out what life's like at the sharp end of global policy-making.
MUN events are a role-play of a UN meeting. Students are assigned a UN member state, assume the role of that country’s diplomats, represent their country's views and defend its national interests on an issue, regardless of their personal opinions.
Delegates research their country’s position on selected topics of global importance – such as provision of clean water, economic justice or the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Everyone then comes together to enact the UN meeting, based on agreed rules of procedure.
The events are a great opportunity to explore and analyse a situation affecting unfamiliar people in unfamiliar settings. You will negotiate and reach consensus on the best action for all, working individually and as part of a group, developing skills in communication and negotiation. MUN is a great way to build self-confidence, as well as getting an insight into the Great Game.
MUN is a student-led club which meets regularly as part of the Tuesday afternoon enrichment programme.
