Phoebe D has been elected to lead the team and is ably assisted by Rana A, Rhys D, Finn M, Anna P and Vita W. It is our aim to forge closer ties with the Senior School this year and to work with them on some of their initiatives whilst having our own foci here at the college. To this end we will join the Wellbeing, Charities, Mentoring, Sport, Events and the Environment Committee.
Our first ever Model United Nations event CamMUN was a resounding success with over 200 students from around the world joining us at The Foundation. The secretariat, committee chairs, delegates and students helpers all excelled themselves and agreed that although exhausting it had been a great experience and they had learned alot from it. The conference has been rated very highly on the MyMUN website by delegates and it is set to be become part of tradition with an another event planned for next year.
I had the very great pleasure of attending the IB Visual Arts show on Friday 23 March with some thought provoking work from our students and last night (Monday 26 March) there were two outstanding solo performances by Year 13 students at the West Road Concert. These students never cease to amaze me and as I have said on many occasions I am extremely proud of them.
This week we will say goodbye to the IB students as they begin their study leave. With all the Internal assessments now complete the first exams are a month away and the majority are now well into their revision programme. The first week back after half-term is consultation week whereby the staff are still available at normal lesson times to answer any questions and support the students in their revision.
The A level students will commence study leave on Friday 11 May 2018, with consultation week 14-18 May 2018. Please provide lots of support at home over the break and a quiet place to study, a change of scene can also be helpful for the students so a visit to the local library might also be in order!
The majority of Year 13 students have now received their university offers and it is time to start firming up choices. The Year 12 students will have the opportunity to join an event today (Tuesday 27 March) that involves a number of alumni who are still at university and will form a panel to answer questions about their own experience. We are expecting old students who are now at Cambridge, Liverpool, Durham, Warwick, Nottingham and Imperial to name a few. At the beginning of next term we are hosting a personal statement writing workshop run by Kings College London and this will be followed up in tutorial time in the remaining part of the term with the expectation that we will have a draft of the statement by the summer break.
Can I just finish by reminding the Year 13 parents of two important dates for their diaries. The Leavers Service at Gonville and Caius is on Monday 2 July at 16.30 and the Leavers Dinner at Girton College is on Wednesday 4 July at 18.30. We do hope to see you there.
I hope you have an enjoyable break.
Best wishes,
Naomi Atkins
