5A tackle issues of migration and sustainability in their class assemblies

Published on 11/12/19

5 Alpha have recently presented two class assemblies that have focused on issues important to them.

On Friday 29 November, 5A kicked off the round of class assemblies with their migration themed presentation. The class took the audience of pupils and parents on a tour of their learning throughout the ‘On the Move’ topic. Migration was explored through the plight of refugees, of African-American slaves and even the over-wintering habits of birds and animals. The class finished with the French language song Mercy, written in celebration of a little girl born aboard a migrant boat crossing dangerous waters.

Then on 5 December, 5 Alpha performed their class assembly to members of years 3-6 and with many parents who had spent the previous few weeks supporting with learning lines. With sustainability being the forefront of many people’s minds, 5 Alpha explained the importance of making small changes to our lives and gave many useful suggestions of ways we can all make a difference to help make our planet happy again. They finished with a well known song, ‘I am the Earth’ which many of the pupils in the audience joined in to sing.
