Year 6 Outdoor learning inspired by Remembrance Day

Published on 14/11/21

On Thursday 11 November, Year 6 went to Latham Road for an Outdoor Learning session inspired by Remembrance Day.

Their Topic this half-term is ‘Sticks and Stones’ which is all about conflict. The damp morning started in the Eco Classroom where they read War Game by Michael Foreman.

Following some poignant reflection time it was off outside to create some Natural Art as a personal act of Remembrance.

Following this, Y6 listened to some War Poems - In Flanders Fields by John McCrae, Please Wear a Poppy by Don Crawford and IYear 6 pupils outdoor learning in the eco classroom spoke to you in Whispers by Neil Andrew.  Having listened to The Last Post, they observed a two minutes’ silence.

One pupil commented: It was a fun morning with some sad parts, like when we read the story and the poems. It is important to remember the soldiers who died because they sacrificed their lives for us. We should thank them for what they did.
