Sporting successes are just as important as academic achievement here.
Our teams compete at local, county, regional and national level, and we also have athletes competing in sports up to and including international level.
All our students enjoy an extensive timetabled programme including netball, hockey, tennis, cricket and athletics. Our curriculum offers great breadth, with students also participating in activities as diverse as touch rugby and zumba.
As well as our dedicated PE staff – we bring in specialist coaching in volleyball, dance, basketball, fencing and rowing.
We promote a positive approach to sport; to introduce the joys of a healthy lifestyle and working with others; encouraging students to discover activities they may enjoy for a lifetime.
On our five-acre, all-weather sports ground on Latham Road, we have a modern pavilion and astroturf pitches for tennis and hockey, as well as all-weather netball courts and space for touch rugby or cricket. In school there is a dance studio, netball court and multi-use games area.
As well as our own facilities, we also utilise the cricket and football pitches at Gonville and Caius College sports ground, Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre, Wilberforce Road Sports facilities and the indoor cricket facilities at Fenners.
We provide excellent sports facilities on campus, including an award-winning sports and learning building that features a four-court sports hall and a rooftop sports pitch (the only one in Cambridge!).
There are seven houses, all named after illustrious former headmistresses or school governors – Cattley (royal blue), Clark (yellow), Kennett (red), Pollock (white), Rose (green), Street (light blue) and Sutherland (orange). You’ll be attached to one when you join the school and will be able to represent your house in a number of competitive activities.
Awards are presented for individual achievements and to the houses that triumph in each sport. But in all activities, the emphasis is on teamwork, effort and enthusiasm, along with friendly competition and having fun.
The Sports Committee is for Year 11s and it offers an opportunity for students to express their views on aspects of Sport at the school. The committee meet once a week to discuss matters and plan events.
They often plan a sporting charity event, which in the past has been a netball shooting competition. The sports committee also help organise the Annual Sports Award Evening where prizes are awarded for many sports.
