Numerical fun at regional final of Team Maths Challenge

Published on 27/03/19

Four students enjoyed taking part in the regional final of the Team Maths Challenge at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Cambridge.

On Tuesday 19 March, Aknur M(Y8), Audrey S (Y8), Archanaa B (Y9) and Stella B (Y9) competed in the regional final of the Team Maths Challenge (TMC), at Cambridge University's Centre for Mathematical Sciences.

The TMC tests mathematical, communication and teamwork skills, and our students competed against teams from other schools and colleges from their region.

Our students worked together as a team of four through four different rounds:

  1. a group round where they all work on the same 10 questions, deciding their own strategy as to whether to work on the questions as a team, in pairs or as individuals

  2. a numerical crossword round where they had to work on different parts as pairs - one pair had the across clues whilst the other pair had the down clues

  3. a mini relay where they worked as pairs and passed their answers between them

  4. A relay which involved lot of running between answering questions

Congratulations to Aknur, Audrey, Archanaa and Stella on throwing themselves in wholeheartedly!
