Stephen Perse Foundation announces outstanding IB Results

Published on 11/07/19

Students who take the International Baccalaureate (IB) at the Stephen Perse Foundation (SPF) have achieved a remarkable average score of 40 points (the maximum being 45) - placing the school in the top group of IB schools both in the UK and worldwide.

In 2019, 63% of SPF students achieved 40 points or above with 90% of all grades awarded at Level 6 or 7, with 7 being the highest grade available. Students at SPF are offered the choice of taking A levels or the IB. A growing percentage of SPF students choose the IB due to its broad recognition by universities worldwide that IB programmes develop academic independence, giving breadth of skills and knowledge fit for the 21st century.

Naomi Atkins, Vice Principal and Head of 6th Form at SPF says: “We are immensely proud of our IB students, not only for their results and university destinations but for the rounded young leaders and pioneers they become. They each leave the 6th Form with their own story, ready to make their mark on the world as active and caring global citizens.”

A note on the IB

The IB Diploma was introduced to the Stephen Perse 6th Form College in 2008 with tremendous success. The College has been awarded Sunday Times IB School of the Year twice now, in both 2010 and 2013.

Over the last five years, IB results have included five perfect scores of 45, and a rolling average of 39.2 points. The UK average in 2018 was 34 points, with the global average around 30 points. Scores of 40 points or more out of the maximum of 45 place students in approximately the top 8% of students in the world.

The IB Diploma is taken by about 150,000 students globally each year. Students study 6 subjects (3 Higher and 3 Standard Level) from across the subject areas. All students study a 'core' of extended essay, theory of knowledge and creativity, action & service.

The IB Diploma is highly prized across the world as a gold standard for university entry. Candidates from the Stephen Perse Foundation have secured places across the full range of disciplines in the UK and several students have taken their IB qualification overseas to study in the USA, Canada and Europe.
