  • Meet the team

We are at an exciting point in our history as we celebrate our 145th anniversary.

Stephen Ward, current Vice-Principal and Head of Senior School and Sixth Form, will take on the Principal role from September 2026. Stephen, who joined the senior leadership team at Stephen Perse Cambridge in 2018, has been instrumental in enhancing the educational experience of all of its students. He has made a sustained and transformative contribution to the school’s success throughout his tenure, raising academic outcomes and overseeing a record number of Oxbridge placements in recent years.

For 145 years, our school has been synonymous with academic ambition, innovation and intellectual discovery. I look forward to building on the best of our traditions whilst embracing new opportunities to help our young people achieve the best possible outcomes and develop the skills and personal character to positively change the world.

    Stephen Ward - Principal Elect

    Our Governors

Our governors bring a wealth of experience, and provide strategic oversight, support and challenge to help the school continue to thrive.

    Alice Heywood

    Head of Pre-Prep

Alice brings with her a wealth of knowledge, having held several senior roles across many areas at Stephen Perse Cambridge for a number of years.  Before holding her current position of Director of Educational Strategy, Alice was Head of School and Head of Curriculum, working across the 3-11 age range at our Junior School sites, both in Cambridge and in Saffron Walden.  Alice prides herself on knowing staff, students and parents well. It is one of her greatest pleasures to have had the opportunity to observe many students and families continue their educational journeys successfully from Junior School to Senior School, Sixth Form and beyond.  As Director of Educational Strategy, Alice is able to use her experience to maintain and drive innovation and creativity across our Junior Schools to keep the Foundation at the forefront of education, preparing students for their continued development.  Having studied maths at university here in Cambridge and represented the university for netball, she is known for a particular passion for maths and still teaches PE to students aged 3-7 across our Early Years and Junior School settings, both in Cambridge and Saffron Walden.
